Apply to the Fire Academy

To enter the Firefighter 1 program, an application process is utilized to select the student participants. On an average, 200 applicants are made available, 70 to 80 are completed and submitted and 40 are selected.

The following classes are prerequisites. Prior to submitting your application, you must have completed the two prerequisite classes. You will be asked to show proof of completion.

• FTR 169A - Emergency Medical Technician I
• FTR 151 - Fire Protection Organization

The following classes are listed as advisories in the Oxnard College Catalogue:

• FTR 152 - Fire Prevention Technology
• FTR 154 - Fire Behavior and Combustion
• FTR 156 - Fundamental of Fire Protection
• FTR 161 - Building Construction

The Academy will be geared to a level that builds on the skills and knowledge learned in these classes.

The 2008 Academy schedule is as follows:

Spring Semester is now in progress through April, 2008.

Please note that there will be no Summer 2008 Academy.

Academy Fall Semester (Aug-Dec): Tues,Wed,Thurs. - 1800-2200 hrs Sat. & Sun. - 0800-1700 hrs. Applications will be available online February 25, 2008, to March 10, 2008). Applications must be turned into the Fire Technology Office, 101 Durley, Camarillo, CA no later than 1500 hrs on March 10th.
