Coach Cunningham joined the Oxnard College men's basketball program on August 14, 2007. Jason Cunningham assisted in elevating the program to success that it had not had in years. In the 2007-08 season the team won 10 conference games, the most in the previous 25 years. The team's 17 wins marked only the fourth time in the last sixteen years that Oxnard finished the season above .500, beating rival Ventura College on their home court. Three players were selected to the WSC All Conference Team and three players are anticipated to sign NCAA Division I scholarships. All four of the current sophomores are scheduled to graduate.

Before coming to Oxnard College, Jason was the associate head coach at Feather River College. The program battled for the Golden Valley Conference title in his time there, improving on the previous year's win totals and conference finish. Prior to Feather River College, Jason was the head coach at Golden West College and the lead assistant at Cypress College.

A graduate of California State University Fullerton, Cunningham was named conference defensive player of the year. Jason was named to the McDonald's and Street & Smith All-American teams with a great high school career at Los Alamitos High School.
