NEW SOCCER COACH TO LEAD THE CONDORS!
Oxnard College is proud to announce Janet Cassidy is the new Head Women's Soccer Coach at Oxnard College. "We are very excited to have Janet lead our program into the future" says Athletic Director Tim Harrison. "Her varied experience at the NCAA, community college and the high school levels will be a great foundation for the growth of our women's program."
Cassidy comes to Oxnard after four years with the Cal Poly Pomona program. Cassidy helped the Bronco women to a an unprecedented seventh straight appearance in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament in 2004. Cassidy served as an assistant coach at Riverside Community College in 2002-03 and also was the head coach at Vista del Lago High School in Moreno Valley for four years from 2002-06. She was the Vista del Lago HS "Coach of the Year" for 2003-04 and she also earned a Coke Outstanding Coach award in 2003-04. Vista del Lago was the DeAnza League champions in 2003-04.
Cassidy was also a volunteer helping to train the Special Olympics Soccer team in November 2003 and she served as the director of coaching and player development for the AL Alliance Soccer Club for Girls Under 14 , Girls Under-13 and Girls Under-11. She coached at the Stampede soccer club on 2007-08 and now currently coaching Girls Under-12 at Ventura County Fusion Soccer Club as well as a assistant coach for the Ventura County Fusion women's league team.
She made the USA Select Team when she was 13 years old and then became a star player at John W. North HS in Riverside. She played varsity soccer for four years and served as team captain for three years. She was the team’s leading scorer twice and the team Most Valuable Player in 1991.
Cassidy played for two seasons at Riverside City College, where she was the team captain for two years and was the team’s Best Offensive Player in 1997 and 1998. She also won the Coach’s Award both seasons and graduated with an associate degree in fine arts in 1998.
Cassidy then transferred to San Diego State, where she graduated in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts with an emphasis in graphic design. She was a graphic intern for the San Diego Union Tribune in 2001 and she also was an art instructor for Art Tours Inc. in La Jolla.
